Overview
This is the documenation for the Japano webapplication toolkit. A copy of this documenation is included in the japano distribution.
What is Japano?
Japano is a light-weight toolkitwhich enables you to develop web applications in java. japano uses JSP documents to generate it's output. You can write dynamic pages in normal JSP. Japano lets you use annotations to declare your own tags inside of these documents.Japano also includes a servlet based runtime engine which handles all page generation and action invocations. Actions are special java classes which can user parameter information to change the session information. Again these actions are declared using annotations. Apart from the servlet runtime configuration, japano is completely metadata driven. The only descriptor file you will encounter using japano is the web.xml file of your webapplication.

What do I need to use japano?
On the software side you need- a Java SDK ( e.g. SUN JDK)
- a Servlet container (e.g. ( e.g. Tomcat)
- The ant build tool
- a good JSP-Editor.
Although you can edit JSP documents even with notepad it is nice to have more sophisticated tools for that.
Personally I'm using netbeans as java IDE and like the JSP editor in it. It offers automatic code completion for the tag libraries japano creates. (screen shot )
You can also open the japano and japano/sample directories of your installed japano distribution as project in your Netbeans IDE.
